Sunday Not-So-Scaries: March 8

I do my best to take the dread out of my Sundays, sometimes it’s a success, others not so much. I’ve found hyping myself up for the week helps if I can muster up the strength to do that. Having some good podcasts on deck can usually get me pretty hyped – I’m an easy-going lady.

I have a pretty lengthy commute from a shore town in New Jersey out to downtown Manhattan for work. While music is a good way to gear up for my work night, it’s not always my go-to. Working a night-ish shift can be a little isolating, and years ago I decided to dive into podcasts to keep myself company on the road. It’s like being in the car with friends… who don’t know you… and aren’t really there. And I’m in luck these days because there’s so many podcasts to choose from now!

So here’s what I’m into this week:

This week my podcast recommendation is Good For You. It’s hosted by comedian Whitney Cummings and her sidekick Benton Ray. Their banter is such a delight before the show and I always leave with some new wisdom in my back pocket. One of the reasons I love this podcast is because Whitney is so open about mental health. Not to mention she’s had some wonderful chats with guests. My favorites have been Dave Grohl, Busy Philipps and Phoebe Robinson. It really, truly lives up to its name: good for you.

I also decided to make an effort each month to read more books. Obviously not while I drive, I’m not that talented. I recently finished “Big Dreams, Daily Joys” by Elise Blaha Cripe. It gave me peace of mind when it came to my endless to do lists and I felt so motivated to tackle my goals after reading it.

I’m not watching any new new shows currently because I mainly just watch TV at night on the weekends and there is so much content to stream right now. But, my husband, Tom, and I are on Season 4 of “The Sopranos” and AHHHH! My poor sister has been getting a lot of random texts from me late on Saturday nights because I need to talk about the episode I just watched long after Tom goes to bed. Whether you love shows about organized crime and New Jersey or not (but those things really are a selling point for me), it’s a show that’s been able to stand the test of time.

We also just watched “Night on Earth” on Netflix which was so neat. I love a good nature documentary, and I believe this one is only six episodes. It captures some incredible footage of animals, you guessed it, at night. I may or may not have gotten way too invested in the lives of some of them, too.

What are some of your fave podcasts for a long trip? Let me know so I can add them to my (very lengthy) list. Are you on Goodreads? Follow me there!

Xo, K

  1. I’m definitely going to give “Good For You” a go! Thank you for the recommend. My personal podcast recommendations are My Dad Wrote a Porno and Mindset Mentor (Rob Dial). But for long trips, it’s got to be Those Conspiracy Guys. Probably repeating what you’ve heard a million times, but hopefully not!

    • Of course, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Oh, actually I have been seeing My Dad Wrote a Porno come up a lot but haven’t tried it yet. I definitely will now. These sound great. I’m going to add them to my list. Thanks 🙂
