December is flying by! Somehow Christmas is in just a few days and honestly, I’m not ready, haha. I haven’t watched a single holiday movie yet this year — but Tom and I are planning on watching a few tonight together. On our list of much watch movies: Jingle All The Way, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and Home Alone. Personally, The Santa Clause is one of my favorites, so I’ll probably watch that tomorrow. Ooh! And A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Usually we spend one weekend in December marathoning holiday movies with friends, but because of well everything we had to cancel this year. We try to appease everyone’s tastes and beliefs, so while we watch the classics in the past we’ve also watched Christmas episodes of The Crypt Keeper, Black Christmas (the original), and Eight Crazy Nights. It’s one of the many things this holiday season that my heart is missing the absolute most, but I know next year will be extra special.
I did recently watch Decorating Disney: Holiday Magic on Disney Plus and I really enjoyed it. I think it’s an older special, but it still was really lovely. The gingerbread house in the Grand Floridian is my favorite.
I treated myself to a yearly subscription to the New York Times Crossword app this year. It’s been a lot of fun and it also keeps me from constantly checking my social media apps.
I got this book by Tony Northrup second hand to help me learn how to use my camera. So far it’s great and has links to tutorial videos and everything. I’ve stopped reading a few times to tell Tom how happy I was that I stumbled upon this book. It’s that good.
It’s been a year or so since I’ve picked up my knitting needles, but last weekend I jumped back into it with a special project. It feels so nice to be knitting again, and it’s extra nice when you’re making something for someone who will appreciate it.
Yesterday I spent the day cooking dinner to bring to a family member with covid, they are doing OK! But making some freezer meals for others is a good way to lift their holiday spirits, and yours.
I also made some sugar cookies the first time in YEARS. Here to say that I am very bad at icing cookies. Like, laughably bad. But it kind of motivated me to look into some books to learn how to do it properly next time. The cookies tasted great, though. I found the recipe from A Beautiful Mess.
To add to the scents happening in my kitchen yesterday, I also made this slow cooker potpourri and WOW. If winter has a scent, this is it.
Cheers to a hopefully slow and relaxing week leading up to the holiday. Mine is FOR SURE going to be different this year, and I’ve had to make some very difficult decisions when it came to seeing family. But I know I’m not alone, and I want you to know that you aren’t either. We’ll get through it together!
