Sunday Not-So-Scaries: December 27

Hello from chilly New Jersey! It’s so strange how quickly the holidays came and went and it felt pretty different overall. This year was mine and Tom’s 18th (!!!) Christmas together. I still remember the first year we were dating I got him a Bowling For Soup CD. Remember CDs haha? We’ve had so many special holidays together. Things have been buzzing in our house this week with our new addition, Krampus. We have been working on acquainting the cats in little ways as slowly and gently as we possibly can. Fingers crossed both of our scaredy cats can adjust soon. Needless to say our Christmas was spent mainly focused on our new adopted cat, and soothing Winnie at the same time. It helped to distract me from the weirdness of the holidays this year, for sure. So I’m grateful for that. I have been obsessed with the new Taylor Swift album Evermore. I have been listening to it back to back with Folklore. I was never a listener before these albums came out and …

Sunday Not-So-Scaries: December 20

December is flying by! Somehow Christmas is in just a few days and honestly, I’m not ready, haha. I haven’t watched a single holiday movie yet this year — but Tom and I are planning on watching a few tonight together. On our list of much watch movies: Jingle All The Way, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and Home Alone. Personally, The Santa Clause is one of my favorites, so I’ll probably watch that tomorrow. Ooh! And A Charlie Brown Christmas. Usually we spend one weekend in December marathoning holiday movies with friends, but because of well everything we had to cancel this year. We try to appease everyone’s tastes and beliefs, so while we watch the classics in the past we’ve also watched Christmas episodes of The Crypt Keeper, Black Christmas (the original), and Eight Crazy Nights. It’s one of the many things this holiday season that my heart is missing the absolute most, but I know next year will be extra special. I did recently watch Decorating Disney: Holiday Magic on Disney Plus and …

Sunday Not-So-Scaries: November 29

Hello! What a week it’s been. I hope that everyone had a nice Thanksgiving, no matter how you spent it. Like a lot of other folks, we didn’t get to see everyone we wanted to on Thanksgiving, and it’s OK! The pandemic is certainly making celebrating the holidays with family hard, and I just want to let you know that if you’re hurting from it — I’m with you and you are not alone. On a lighter note, though, I did try to get some relaxing in this week. I wasn’t super successful, but I did kick my feet up a few times to enjoy some TV and movies. Here’s a few things that brought me some joy this week: The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show was so so fun! Kacey’s Christmas album is one of my absolute favorites and I played it on loop while I was decorating the house a little bit last week. If you enjoy cheesy variety-style shows I think you’ll really like this one. It’s streaming on Amazon Prime. This year …

Sunday Not-So-Scaries: November 22

Hello! I know I haven’t been around much lately, things have been pretty busy. I spent the week with my sister and brother-in-law helping out with my baby nephews which was so special. The oldest is really into the 12 Days of Christmas book lately, and I think we all sang it to him no less than 10 times a day. Fine by me, whatever make him happy. Last night Tom and I carried out our annual pre-Thanksgiving tradition of watching Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Steve Martin and John Candy are two of my favorites and I just love that movies so much. The ending always makes me cry! I’m so behind, but I just started the first season of Schitt’s Creek and it is definitely the pick-me-up I’ve been looking for. I spent some time meal prepping last Sunday, and will again today. Meal prep Sundays were something Tom and I did every single week pre-Covid times, but we kind of stopped doing it once I started being home every single day. One thing …

Sunday Not-So-Scaries: November 1

Well, hello November! I kind of love November, honestly. Really, I love all the fall and winter months, because I’m a fan of the cooler weather. I’m always sad when Halloween is over, though. Yesterday I took two of my nephews out trick-or-treating in their neighborhood. I brought a mask with me and the majority of the houses had candy in bowls to be socially distant. We still said trick-or-treat to all of the decorations, though haha. After we filled up their buckets, I went home to watch some scary movies. It was a fun little full-moon, quarantine Halloween for sure. Today I’ll be taking all of my Halloween decor down (RIP). But in a few weeks Christmas will be up. Or maybe sooner. Probably sooner. I just ordered this tree for our living room. I love the rose gold! Tom was now feeling the bubble gum pink one I wanted, so we compromised haha. We started a tradition last year of going out to a tree farm and cutting down our own tree. So …

Sunday Not-So-Scaries: October 11

Hellooooo! I took a bit of a break from everything this week — social media and blogging, even answering texts. I needed a mental break and I feel so much better since taking one. Yesterday was World Mental Health Day, and it’s imperative that we take care of our mental health — if you need help there is no shame in getting it. Here’s a few things I’ve been loving this week: I surprised Tom with an espresso machine for his birthday. We finally got around to trying it out this weekend and it was such a nice treat. Have you seen the new season of Fargo yet? Chris Rock is incredible in it so far! These sweatpants from J. Crew Factory are the coziest I’ve ever owned. I got them in Austin Sunset and Warm Rose. I’m not big on pumpkin spice everything in fall, though I do enjoy it. But this pumpkin spice matte lipstick from Too Faced is my favorite. I love the color! This Modcloth Halloween pajama set is back in …

Sunday Not-So-Scaries: September 27

Hellooooo! I’m having a sleepy Sunday today, but not much else is new in my world. I’m anxiously awaiting the birth of my newest little nephew, seems like any day now! I love being an auntie so so much, it’s definitely my favorite role in life. On the first day of fall this year I decided that I needed to spend it outside — either in the woods or on the beach. Thankfully where I live I have easy access to both. I chose the beach, and I’m glad that I did. It was empty aside from a few sunbathers and a handful of surfers. Local summer — well, fall now. But I was able to walk down the beach without worrying about being too close to anyone (I brought a mask juuuuust in case). I laughed when I thought about the fact that my first beach day of 2020 just so happened to be on the first day of fall. I was happy to be there, though. I sat in the sand and put …

Sunday Not-So-Scaries: September 20

Hello, hello! It’s really starting to feel like fall here in New Jersey, and it’s THE BEST! I got so excited that I packed away almost all of my summer clothes already, hoping for no rogue 80 degree days. This week was quite a blur, most likely because my stay-cation came to an end and it’s been an adjustment getting back into the swing/night shift. I’ve been doing this for nearly five years now so I know it just takes some time! On a somber note, I want to acknowledge the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She spent her entire career fighting for equality, and for that I thank her. I do want to share a few things that have brought some light to my week, though. The cooler weather has put me in a baking mood. The fall and winter are my favorite times of the year to make sweets. I made this skillet peach cobbler recipe from Half Baked Harvest this week, topped with a dollop of vanilla ice cream …

Sunday Not-So-Scaries: September 13

It’s been a rainy week, but a happy one. I enjoyed having an entire week off with my husband, even if we didn’t get out much and spent time taking turns playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater on PS4, which I am very bad at. We would have been in Germany this week if COVID hadn’t happened, but I’m dreaming up our plans to really do it big whenever we can finally get there. I just got back from spending the weekend with my sister, brother-in-law and my little sweet nephew. He’s about ready to walk and had me on my toes! It was such a special visit and I’m so happy I was able to visit with them safely. A few things I’m loving this week: I know buying jeans seems really weird right now, but sometimes I want some normalcy back in my life. Transitioning into fall clothes is about to happen and I’d like to try to wear more than loungewear while I’m working remotely, but we’ll see if I actually do. No …

Sunday Not-So-Scaries: September 6

I love a long weekend, and at that I took some time off to stretch it out a bit more. Can’t wait to have a week full of Sundays! Tom and I were supposed to be in Germany this week. </3 We were in the “ready to book” stages of our planning when COVID hit, though. So we didn’t have anything official in the books, but it still feels disappointing. I’m hopeful that we’ll make it there in the future. I’ve been doing my best not to dwell on it, though. I have a few things that have been bringing some joy to my heart: I got to spend time with my nephews this weekend and it was so so wonderful. Except when I told my (almost) four-year-old nephew that an empty box was a spaceship, he said: “No, it’s a box.” Well then! I bought these wooden truck and train paint kits to do together, and it was so much fun to see my nephew get messy and use his creativity. I took the …
